After Laura Poitras received encrypted emails from someone with information on the government's massive covert-surveillance programs, she and reporter Glenn Greenwald flew to Hong Kong to meet the sender, who turned out to be Edward Snowden.

“documentary of the year … allows the viewer to experience, first-hand, history being made”

-- Liam Lacey, Globe and Mail

“A gripping and chilling behind-the-scenes insight into privacy, paranoia, politics, and the man at the centre of a complex issue – Edward Snowden”

-- Sarah Ward, ArtsHub

““Citizenfour” stands alone in evoking the modern state as an unseen, ubiquitous presence, an abstraction with enormous coercive resources at its disposal.”

- A. O. Scott, New York Times

Introduction by Blake Fitzpatrick, Chair, Ryerson’s School of Image Arts.

Co-sponsored with the Documentary Media Research Centre at Ryerson University
