Department of National Defence wins the federal 2023 Code of Silence Award for Outstanding Achievement in Government Secrecy.

Canada's Department of National Defence has been selected as the 2023 recipient of the federal Code of Silence Award for Outstanding Achievement in Government Secrecy for taking three years to respond to an access request by an Ottawa researcher who inquired about the cost of a controversial program to build new Canadian warships.

CFE Joins in the Call for More Consultation on the Proposed Artificial Intelligence and Data Act

The Centre for Free Expression has joined with 23 other organizations and 34 individual experts to call on Innovation, Science and Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne to split the proposed Artificial Intelligence and Data Act (AIDA) from the omnibus Bill C-27 in which it is currently embedded so it can be returned to the parliamentary committee for proper consideration – something it has not had to date.

Louis-Philippe Lampron, Professor of Law at l'Université Laval, is joining Toronto Metropolitan University’s Centre for Free Expression (CFE) as a Senior Fellow.
